How's everyone doing? This weeks assignment is related to how “Awkward” deals with a lot of drama between friends and frenemies that involves name calling back stabbing and deep secrets. Sadie Saxton being one of the main characters from the show is portrayed as a popular mean girl and is only popular because of her rich status, which recently changed when her family became broke. Because of her popularity she has many friends and frenemies, especially her arch-nemesis and enemy Jenna Hamilton.
I’ve recently read Beverly Gross’s piece “Bitch” where she writes about the different ways and definitions people use or interpret the word for themselves. The reading mentions definitions of the word bitch being used as an insult, a female, a word used by men who are threatened by women where it is also used within friends for instance “Hey bitch!" having some edge without the actual insult.
When calling someone a bitch Sadie has no problem doing so she loves to insult her classmates as well as telling it how it is, ending it with her famous line “You’re welcome”. Sadie constantly calling Jenna HamilTurd, HamilSkank, HamilPerv, Hamiltoe, Hamiltwat and most importantly for my point Homewrecker Hamilton amongst other things. Everyone thinks Sadie is a bitch because of her actions. She does malicious things knowing the bad outcome, being called out multiple times by her friends. One particular time being when Jenna is dating Jake Rosati (Mckibben's best friend) after Matty decides he's not ready to be public with Hamilton. Jake only knowing Matty was seeing someone from Camp Pookah unaware the girl from camp was Jenna! Matty deciding for Jakes best interest he not know about them. Later finding out the truth by Sadie causing their breakup. Jake giving Jenna no explanation besides saying I'm just not feeling it. Jake calls Matty, informing him he's broken up with Jenna because there was another guy as well as asking him if he has anything to tell him, anything at all referring to his past relationship with Hamilton. Matty not having a clue goes over to Jenna's house to see how she was feeling about the breakup, ending with a kiss between Matty and Jenna.. with Jake at the back door catching the action who devastated snaps a picture. The following day Jenna texts Jake asking again what she did wrong? Jake replied to Jenna's question with a tacky photo of Jenna and Matty on the bed, and the words - You're a cheater - written in caps and bold.
Leaving Jenna freaking out running to tell Matty "Jake knows EVERYTHING". Matty does the moral thing by going to Sadie and calls her a bitch. Sadie being the person who wouldn't care being called a bitch in fact says thank you.
Matty who is threatened by Sadie for being honest with something he wasn’t capable of saying nor doing.
